UPDATE: Due to the power and internet issues affecting so many of us this week, this meeting will be rescheduled. Please stay tuned for a new date, and take care of yourselves and your families as we navigate these challenges.

I hope that this finds you staying safe and warm during this unprecedented weather event.  Assuming that the university reopens on Thursday as planned, we will still be holding our February general meeting this Thursday afternoon, February 18th, from 2:00-3:30pm via Zoom.

Have you ever wondered why we've begun kicking off our general meetings with a Land Acknowledgment?  Read this article to find out why.

Our agenda this month includes:

  • A COVID-19 Vaccine Education Panel with Amayrany Maya-Mora, BSN, RN, Public Health Nurse at UT Children's Wellness Center and Gabriela Alvarez Perez, PMA, Medical Assistant at UT Health Austin.
  • A vote on endorsement of the Resolution on Technology-Enhanced Education developed by Faculty Council. If you have thoughts on this, please let your rep know.
  • Staff Council Officer Elections to elect officers for the upcoming year.
  • An update on our Bylaws Review process.

We hope that you can join us! If you missed our last meeting, you can always find recordings of past meetings on our website.

And as always, if there is any way that Staff Council can serve you better, please reach out to me or your district representative. our December meeting, we had a presentation on initial plans for COVID-19 vaccine distribution.  As you may be aware, plans have been rapidly evolving based on new guidance from the state.  Staff Council is continuing to work with UT communications folks to help ensure that we all have the most accurate and up-to-date information.  And of course, you can always check the Protect Texas Together website for the latest updates.

This Monday’s MLK Day holiday is particularly poignant given the continued racial inequity and divisions plaguing this country.  If you are able to take some time to participate in the national Day of Service, the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement has shared some events and volunteer opportunities that you may find helpful.

Finally, I would like to invite you to this month’s general meeting, this coming Thursday, January 21st from 2:00-3:30pm.  We are glad to welcome Kate Raetz, Andrea Sheridan and Jenna Watts to speak to us about what to expect from the Texas Legislative Session that got underway earlier this week.  We hope that you can join us!

And as always, if there is any way that Staff Council can serve you better, please reach out to me or your district rep and let us know.
